peace

Peace poem
Peace is calmness around the world
Peace is as pure as white paint
Peace looks like teamwork
Peace looks like kids saying nice words to each other
Peace feels like laughter and happiness.

popcorn

Did you ever wonder what’s in popcorn?
One day me and my mum went shopping.  I told mum if we can buy popcorn seeds. I plan to plant these popcorn seeds so I can learn about them. Then I can bring them to school and talk about it in class.

When we got home my mum and I planted the seeds and laid them between wet paper towel in a plastic bag.  We left it opened and we waited for ten days until it grows.

After ten days my mum and I planted the growing sprout  in a pot and waited for two weeks.  When we saw leaves growing we took them out and planted them in our garden. We saw stalks coming out and it kept growing and growing.

As I went outside the seeds grow bigger and bigger and the seeds keep on falling down  so I grabbed a clean bucket to fill it and brought them to  school.
this was a fun topic to learn about popcorn I hope we will do this again.

Plight of the sea turtles

Sea Turtles

What are turtles ? Where do they live ? how many turtles are there ? What do they do ?
I'm pretty sure you've been asking those questions. Well I’ll tell you about sea turtles. The sea turtles are threatened or endangered . We the people are the problem. We are throwing things out into the sea like fishing nets, nets, rocks, sticks mainly plastics.  Many of the turtles die due to plastic. They get tangled by rubbish or get choked with plastic bags. People are destroying their habitats and their nests. Every year people kill sea turtles for their meat and their shells for the black market which sells illegal  things which is not allowed. Baby turtles have a tiny percent of surviving only 0.1 percent of surviving. High tides, erosion, cyclone, and drought all destroy their nests sites. Predators such as dogs, rats, and pigs raid turtles nest for eggs.

I wish that turtles will not disappear like dinosaurs.  We need to preserve and help their survival in the sea.

computers

WALT:write an explanation on how things are done

I like playing games on the computer or chromebook. I like watching videos on youtube and I like writing my stories on the computer. Hmmm do you like computers…. Are you sick and tired of writing on paper and rubbing out?

Well, you should get a computer or a laptop so you can write faster and rub it out faster. It is a great tool.  It useful for many things like writing, reading, maths, researching, youtube, games, and many stuff. It is a good choice to have computers or laptop because you can chat with your friends and you can send your work to them and do much more.
Computers are useful but there are some bad effects too. Don't you think its too much money and waste of power. You don't use computer for silly games and for stupid sites you don’t need too. Only use it for homework and looking and researching for school projects and investigation.

Computers at this time is a need because schools use them more for learning- I can say that computer is good after all.

Mary Mackillop centre

It’s the 60Th  jubilee. In the Mary Mackillop centre as we finished looking in all the rooms. we all gathered around in one room. As we gathered around the room it had cool patterns on the wall and old clocks.  As we finished looking around the room we all sat down to ask questions. when we finished asking questions. The sisters told us about their life back in the old days and what’s it like to be a nun. When the sisters finished telling us about their lives and what's it like to be a nun. We went outside to eat our lunch and look at Rangitoto island. we went and looked around the place.  As we finished eating we had lollies on our way back to school. When we came back from Mary Mackillop centre we lined up waiting for the teachers to come. As we got back to school we more play time because we didn't have any play time at Mary Mackillop centre.

volcanoes

volcano facts

1.  A volcano is a mountain that has an opening that opens downward to a pool of molten rock below the surface of the earth. When pressure builds up, there is no release of these pressure and so eruptions occur.
2. In an eruption, gases and rock aims and  shoots up through the opening and spill over or fill air with lava fragments.
3. Big eruptions can also cause big lava flows, hot ash flows, huge mudslides, avalanches, falling ash and floods.
4. An erupting volcano can trigger big wavy tsunamis, flash floods, earthquakes, mud flows and rockfalls.Volcano
5. The sound of an eruption volcano can be really quiet
and can sound a little bit like a hissing sound or explosives bombs and booming.
  1. 6. Volcanoes form when magma from within the Earth's upper mantle it works its way to the surface. At the surface, it erupts and form’s lava flows and ash deposits. Over time as the volcano continues to erupt, it will really get bigger.Volcano
7.There are different types of volcanoes there are cinder cones, composite volcanoes, shield volcanoes and big lava volcanoes.

8. Magma’s are liquid rock inside a volcano. Lava is liquid rock (magma) that will flows out of a volcano.

9. The most scariest and deadly eruptions has occurred in Indonesia, with 20 thousand of lives are in danger.
to starvation, tsunami (as a result of the eruption), ash flows, and mudflows.

Horrible Science terrible truth about time

Horrible Science terrible truth about time.
Illustrated by: Nick Arnold and Tony De Saulles.

I like this book because its about a horrible scientist that makes good things in to bad things and that does everything wrong and can’t do anything right. That’s why he is called a horrible scientist.
My favourite part of the book is when he couldn't fix the clock so the clock and the man fell down but he didn't die.                                                                                                    I like this book because it is a long and funny book.

valley of silver

     Valley of silver
Author: Linda McCabe

This book is interesting because it’s about a little kid whose name was Logan who wanted to be a dragon slayer when he grew up. Ten years later, he was older  and went to follow his dreams which was to be a dragon slayer. So, he went to a village to help some people who needed help. The people in the village said to stay with them  if he had any where else to go. Ok, he said thank you very much, he smiled. He saw a girl wandering around. As everyone went to sleep a dragon came and took the girl to a cave. Logan woke up he heard screaming, he ran outside and followed the screaming girl and he saved her.

My favourite part was when Logan was training the dragon.
I like this book because it is an interesting book to read.

My work on Conduction

The process by which heat or electricity directly transmitted through the material of a substance when there is a difference of temperature or of electrical potential between adjoining regions, without movement of the material.
  • the process by which sound waves travel through a medium.
  • the transmission of impulses along nerves.

Conduction in science is when energy moves from one place to another place by touch. electricity conductors and heat conductions  are the two most important kinds. In heat conduction, the heat energy travels from the hot point to a cold point. Something that energy can easily move through is a good conductor. metal is a good conductor. An insulator  a poor conductor. An example is rubber. Energy cannot move quickly through an insulator. plastics  are insulators. Some materials, such as glass, are conductors for heat but not electricity.

Animals

Did you know? That most animals eat plants but did you actually know that plants can eat animals even bigger animals. There are more than two hundred species of plants that are carnivorous in the world,at least ten of these are native to NZ. Carnivorous are meat-eaters.

WHY ARE SOME PLANTS CARNIVOROUS?
All plants need light from the sun to turn water and carbon dioxide into food. This process is called photosynthesis. Plants will also need nutrients, such as nitrogen,to survive, but most plants get these foods from the soil they live in. But some soils{especially in boggy, swampy or sandy areas} but do not have enough of these nutrients. Carnivorous plants, such as a venus flytrap or pitcher, have to adapt so that they can get nutrients from the insects they catch.

My work about History

History, people think that History is about dead people and therefore is    a dead subject, but I think History is a living thing. When I think of the past it’s like I am there when people were still alive. Wouldn't you like to know what happened long ago in this world?.
Wouldn't you like to know about what it was like when Jesus lived? Imagine you are walking on the dusty ground with your sandals on and old clothes walking with Jesus and hearing his voice.
You can go back in time to find out about things that happened years  ago. I,ll tell you one person in history that I like and he is a peacemaker. That person is  Mahatma Gandhi. I will tell you about Mahatma Gandhi.Mahatma Gandhi was a spiritual Leader of India and Mahatma Gandhi is one of the most Famous Leader and champion Fighter for Justice in the world.  Mahatma Gandhi believed in non violent. In protest and campaign resistance Against the British people. He fought for the independence of India but he didn't fight like hitting he just sat down because the British people were forcing him to whatever they say but Mahatma Gandhi did not get up that's called passive resistance. Mahatma Gandhi was put in prison a lot of times for organizing protests. Mahatma Gandhi fights for civil rights of the Indian people.

what Mahatma Gandhi be the one  peacemakers are us.

a very special frog

A very special frog

By: Isikuki

Which creature lives near water, swim with webbed feet, croaks, and catches flies with their  long tongue? Guess who it is?

A snake, a lizard or a frog. That’s right a frog. Did you know frogs are famous for their loud croaking? Did you know frogs live in steep, sloping, bush high above the water or live under damp places,or under rotten logs or damp rocks? Frogs eat small larvae, worms, beetles and insects. Did you know frogs are slimy as if it looks like spit all around its body?  It has small feet smaller than my finger and it eyes are round and small.  The colour of its skin is golden yellow to light brown in colour. Frogs sense by hearing sounds that is close to them or it camouflage so once a person comes close the frog will stay still.
So the person can’t see the frog or if you try to grab the frog then the frog will hop away.
